We are seeking expressions of interest or applications for a consumer, carer and/or community member to join the Clinical Genomics Statewide Clinical Network Steering Committee.

What's being decided?

Because Clin­i­cal Genomics is a rel­a­tive­ly new field of med­i­cine it is very impor­tant that we involve, include, com­mu­ni­cate and under­stand the South Aus­tralian com­mu­ni­ties voice and thoughts on this area of health­care.

We are there­fore seek­ing peo­ple with lived expe­ri­ence as a con­sumer or car­er who have not pre­vi­ous­ly worked or are cur­rent­ly work­ing as a health professional.

We are seek­ing appli­cants who:

  • are pas­sion­ate about improv­ing care and expe­ri­ences for patients and their families.
  • are able to com­mu­ni­cate effec­tive­ly, work well in a team and be good prob­lem solvers.
  • have recent expe­ri­ence as a patient or car­er rel­e­vant to the clin­i­cal network.
  • are avail­able to par­tic­i­pate in activ­i­ties of the Steer­ing Com­mit­tee, includ­ing face to face meet­ings, work­ing groups and some work con­duct­ed between meetings.

If successfully appointed, you will be a member of the Steering Committee for the Clinical Genomics Statewide Clinical Network.

Background

Statewide Clinical Networks (SCNs) are groups of health professionals, representatives from other health service organisations, consumers and carers who work collaboratively to support the delivery of excellent care in a particular area of health. SCNs operate across the entire continuum of care, both private and public sectors, and all healthcare settings.

SCNs are led by a small steering committee of key personnel able to influence outcomes and implement changes to services.

Genomics is the study of the complete set of genetic information a person has (the genome). Clinical Genomics is an emerging medical discipline that involves using genomic information about an individual as part of their clinical care (e.g. for diagnostic or therapeutic decision making).

Clinical Genomics is fundamentally changing the way we prevent, diagnose, treat and monitor illness, giving us the opportunity to develop more precise and tailored healthcare.

We will consider all applications received and the Clinical Genomics SCN Lead and the CEIH Consumer and Clinical Partnerships Executive Director will appoint the Steering Committee Members.

We will notify the outcome to all applicants by early March 2021.

Unsuccessful applicants may have future opportunities to participate on sub-committees or working groups.
