South Australia’s Adoption Act - review consultation now closed. Learn about the outcomes here.


Thank you to the large number of people who contributed to the Adoption Act Review.  The contributions are being analysed and will be incorporated into the Review’s report, which is due to be provided to the Minister for Education and Child Development by 30 September 2015.  Any enquiries about the progress of the Review can be made by emailing

We sought feedback from the community on several specific issues as follows:

  • adoption information vetoes
  • adoption of a person over the age of 18 years
  • retention of the child’s birth names
  • same-sex couples and adoption
  • single person adoption
  • discharge of adoption orders in certain circumstances.
