Minister’s Recreational Fishing Advisory Council (MRFAC)
MRFAC is the main advisory body to the State Government on recreational fishing.
The Council directly engages with the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development on recreational fishing issues.
It provides feedback and advice to government on recreational fishing development issues and initiatives and policy issues that impact the recreational fishing sector.
Creation of the Council
The Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development sought the views of recreational fishers in South Australia on the formation, structure and function of the new Minister’s Recreational Fishing Advisory Council through a three-week consultation process. This consultation ran from 31 August 2018 until 21 September 2018.
Consultation with recreational fishers showed overwhelming support for the creation of this new representative body.
South Australia’s recreational fishers were able to nominate to become members of the new Minister’s Recreational Fishing Advisory Council between 17 December 2018 and 11 February 2019. The final line-up of the MRFAC was announced in March 2019.
MRFAC is now recognised as the main advisory body to the State Government on recreational fishing.
It is proposed that the Management Plan for Recreational Fishing in South Australia be amended to reflect MRFAC as the peak advisory body.
