In May 2017, the Residential Design Guidelines were released by ODASA for public comment for a period of three months. The feedback received on the Guidelines was useful in understanding what will benefit the industry, community and assist in developing South Australia’s new planning system. Lessons learnt include simplified language, less prescriptive guidance and more emphasis on the importance of good design in meeting the challenges faced by our growing State.

To address these learnings, The Office for Design and Architecture SA (ODASA) has prepared the Good design for great neighbourhoods and places booklet which seeks to increase community understanding of the importance of good design and set a new benchmark for our built environment.

The Good design for great neighbourhoods and places booklet has been released as a result of the Residential Design Guidelines research and findings, which continue to inform and assist in the development of the Planning and Design Code as part of the roll out of the new planning system.
