Food safety is an important aspect of public health. The food service sector (eg. restaurants and cafes) is naturally classified as high risk, with 70% of food poisoning outbreaks in South Australia attributed to these types of businesses.

Currently, 21 councils are participating in the Food Safety Rating Scheme, representing around 70% of the South Australian population.

Businesses that underperform receive education and support to improve food safety compliance.
