As part of A Fresh Start (4.5 MB), the Government’s response to the Child Protection Systems Royal Commission (15.5 MB), the Early Intervention Research Directorate (EIRD) is responsible for creating and coordinating a whole of government prevention and early intervention strategy for child abuse and neglect.

You may have seen early drafts of the Strategy and we are now pleased to offer organisations and the community an opportunity to have a say.

What is being decided?

This draft Getting it Right Early: South Australian Government's Prevention and Early Intervention Strategy for Child Abuse and Neglect sets four priorities that combine improved evidence and intelligence gathering, system reforms that strengthen the capacity to provide prevention and early intervention supports, recognising and responding to the over-representation of Aboriginal people in the child protection system, and targeting services for those with greatest need.

How can you get involved?

We are seeking overarching comments on the draft strategy and your specific feedback on:

  • if the four strategic themes are the right ones
  • if there is anything missing or unnecessary in the current draft
  • what priority activities you see as important

You can have your say by:

Please note that all responses will be kept confidential. Any comment made via the online discussion will be visible to the public.

Have your say before submissions and comments close 5pm 25 January 2018.

How can your input influence the decision?

Your input will help shape the current and future phases of the Getting it Right Early: South Australian Government's Prevention and Early Intervention Strategy for Child Abuse and Neglect 2018. It is essential that the Strategy is developed in consultation with key government, non-government and community stakeholders, including targeted conversations with Aboriginal leaders and community representatives.

How will your input be used?

The Getting it Right Early: South Australian Government's Prevention and Early Intervention Strategy for Child Abuse and Neglect 2018 will be finalised in February 2018 and published shortly thereafter.

Conversations will continue through the actions included in the strategy and in designing and shaping the next phases of the strategy.
