The State Sports Park at Gepps Cross in Adelaide’s north is the home of Australia’s and SASI’s track cycling teams and SA’s State Hockey Centre and includes Foresters Forest.
Funding for the development of the State Football (soccer) Centre and upgrades to the Super-Drome was delivered in 2018/19.
Once complete in late 2021, the State Football Centre will be operated by Football SA and new developments include a show stadium, multiple pitches (including five-aside) for community use, gym, public café, and corporate facilities. A second stage will include an indoor soccer facility and another community pitch. One pitch will be natural turf, two pitches will be synthetic and all will be floodlit.
The Adelaide Super-Drome is the home of the Australian Cycling Team, the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) track cycling program and CyclingSA. The venue hosts cycling and community stadium-style events. The super-Drome upgrades include new heating and lighting, infield fencing, timing system, security upgrade and the addition of the a ‘wind tunnel’ for precision aerodynamic sports testing, for completion in 2021.
The State Hockey Centre is operated by HockeySA and hosts local, state and national level games and other events.
Foresters Forest is an environmental asset and provides informal walking and cycling opportunities amongst the multi-species arboretum-style trees planted in 1993.
The current cycling and football developments, building upon the existing facilities and features, provides the impetus to establish a much more accessible, connected and fully developed precinct.
The final stage of the Master Plan will incorporate feedback and ideas for the entire Park and be used for investment and funding purposes for further development.
South Australia continues to lead the way in the sport and recreation industry and these world-class facilities are set to commence construction in 2021.
