Do you support the sale of the land at Sunnybrae Estate to the current lessees, Adelaide Premium Catering, to enable further investment in the site?

What is being decided?

Sunnybrae Estate Function Centre, on Naweena Road, Regency Park, is on Crown land and managed by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield council. The council has leased Sunnybrae Estate to Adelaide Premium Catering Pty Ltd since 2015.

Adelaide Premium Catering plan to significantly invest in the site and have development approval to replace an existing small function room built in the 1990’s with a $2 million state of the art 800m2 function and event facility, which compliments the site’s local heritage - view the concept plans.

In light of this investment, Adelaide Premium Catering has submitted an Unsolicited Proposal to the South Australian Government, through the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources, to purchase the land they currently hold under a lease from the council. Initially Adelaide Premium Catering pursued a 42-year lease with the council, which underwent public consultation, and as a result the council supported a 42-year lease.

The Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Conservation considered the proposal to purchase the land and has provided in principle support, subject to community feedback on the sale.

The sale would be based on paying the market value for the Crown land.

How can your input influence the decision?

This Unsolicited Proposal is being managed by the Department for Environment, Water and Natural Resources. The decision of whether to sell the land to Adelaide Premium Catering Pty Ltd will be made by the Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Conservation under the Crown Land Management Act 2009.

Your input will be presented to the Minister and will be taken into consideration in his final determination of whether or not to sell the land.

Some of the questions you are encouraged to consider and provide feedback on are:

  • What is the best way for the proposal to meet government and community needs?
  • Is there more to this proposal that should be considered?
  • Do the benefits of the proposal to South Australia outweigh the costs?
  • What do you think the benefits and costs might be?
  • Should the proposal or parts of it be open to competition, and why or why not?

Get involved

You are invited to have your say on whether you feel the community will benefit more from the unsolicited proposal going ahead and the land being developed, or from the land continuing to be Crown land and held under a lease.

Your feedback is also sought on relocating and potentially selling historical items located at Sunnybrae Estate Function Centre and owned by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield since the Enfield Heritage Museum closed in 2011.

The City of Port Adelaide Enfield recently commissioned a review of the collection of objects, documents and other archival material relating to local history, and your feedback is sought on recommendations to relocate a number of the objects and documents to other collections and potentially sell items, in line with the report

How will your input be used?

Your comments will be collated and provided to the Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Conservation. The feedback provided through YourSAy and other community engagement opportunities will inform the assessment on whether this proposal should proceed.
