VACSWIM is a South Australian Government-funded program providing primary school children aged 5– 13 years with opportunities to develop a range of skills and positive experiences in the areas of water safety, confidence and competence in the water, personal survival activities and basic aquatic emergency procedures. For more than 50 years, the program has been conducted by qualified instructors in a controlled environment, located at school pools, public and private pools, beaches and lakes throughout South Australia.
Currently conducted over a 7 day period in December or January school holidays, the VACSWIM Program provides approximately 12,000 children with water safety knowledge each year. There are over 120 sites across the state based at pools and beaches, employing hundreds of suitably qualified staff to teach important water safety knowledge and skills.
To improve our program, we have already sought the views of VACSWIM program providers including:
- Surf Life Saving SA
- Royal Life Saving SA
- Individual providers
- VACSWIM Office
- A number of instructors in charge of individual sites.
Now we are seeking feedback from those people who have been involved in the program in the past, those who have never heard of VACSWIM and the general public.
