Also, enforcement of employers allowing apprentices to attend tafe classes, with verifiable proof of those attendances.
Ex-employer, when we pushed, complained that he'd never had to send any former apprentices to tafe, nor had there been onsite classes.
So I don't understand how those apprentices got their certificates without the classes being legally signed off on.

I think that the Apprenticeships Board should be separate to Business SA, and whilst working with business, they should represent the interests mainly of the apprentice.
There should be better legal support for apprentices wanting to challenge dodgy employers, rather than the situation where the sole legal advisor is on maternity leave.
In regards to court appearances, it should be made obvious that the apprentice is entitled to industry representation just as the employer is - in our case the employer was represented by the Apprenticeships Board.
Furthermore, the magistrate involved needs to have some knowledge of how apprenticeships work, including wages, rather than taking the word of the business' representative.
Having spoken to a few apprenticeship co-ordinators, apprentices being unfairly treated is quite common with no effective recourse available to the apprentice.
Tafe teachers need to be working part-time in the industry so their skills and knowledge are always up to date.

Wonderful to be a part of this opportunity. Keen to see that our youth receive basic safety tuition as part of their high school studies or during their initial contract sign up before they are placed in workplaces. Would be great for this to be covered as a part of the Acts revision.
