Youth disengaged

Young people disengaged from education and work

Young people who are not participating in employment, education or training are more likely to experience social and economic disadvantage, poorer physical and mental health and be at risk of social exclusion – all factors that negatively impact wellbeing in both the short and longer term.

It is linked to future unemployment or underemployment with consequences including lower lifetime income and employment insecurity, lower social and political participation, poor physical and mental health, substance misuse, parenting at a young age, violence and criminal activity.
