ATC Food Education program

Indigenous food and cooking education program in Indigenous communities in South Australia

Project details

Budget

$40,000.00

How will the funding be spent?

The funding will be spent on contracting one of Australia's most renowned home chefs and her business to travel to 6 Indigenous communities in 2017/18 to deliver food and cooking workshops for Aboriginal children together with their parents.

How will the project be delivered?

Around the Campfire and Warndu (Rebecca Sullivan's company) will travel to the 6 Indigenous communities to deliver the workshops. Working in conjunction with the Port Adelaide Football Club, ATC will utilise the popularity and logistical work done by PAFC to get the Indigenous community together to enable high participation in the workshops.

How many people will directly benefit from this project?

1500

How will you measure the impact of this project?

Sales of fresh food from local stores
Data from local health clinic

How will the project fit this year's theme of ‘Connect, Grow, Build, Belong’?

Learning new skills as a family team through our workshops allows the individuals to connect with each other through food and feel like they belong to the family unit as they spend more time cooking meals together and enjoying food.
It will also allow members of the community to come and join together in the workshops but also longer term in community 'cook ups' where food becomes the centre piece again as it was for 1000's of years. Connecting people again through food.

Fantastic Bec, this will be added to My Plan. I've just come across Your Say through a foundation my family is a part of. I'm currently studying Nutritional Medicine and I think your program sounds great, wishing you all the best with it. Audra
