Big Sunday Community Bus

12 seater community bus for supporting organisations and transporting volunteers

How will the funding be spent?

Big Sunday have spent time connecting with community groups, understanding and listening to their needs and we have discovered a need that will help all the groups and enable Big Sunday to grow and serve many more people. This need might seem very simple, but its impact will be huge.
We propose to use the grant funding to purchase a ‘Big Sunday’ branded 12 seater community bus.

How will the project be delivered?

The new bus will provide the following solutions;
Transporting volunteers to and from projects around SA
A free community service for those partnering with Big Sunday
Remove barriers of social isolation and/or reasons to not contribute to community help
Genesis Pregnancy Support Inc;
Transporting clients to and from Mt Compass, removing the barrier of transport to rural areas as a reason to not seek help assist with transporting educators to rural schools to present sex relationship education.

How many people will directly benefit from this project?

We envision the people mover being used to assist around 500 volunteers per year

How will you measure the impact of this project?

We will log how many organisations and people contributing to that organisation utilize the service. This will allow us to factually understand the demand for the service and to understand if we need to increase the fleet.
More organisations will demand the service, as they will see the growth of others
Bring more volunteers to help - Organisations will grow with people power

How will the project fit this year's theme of ‘Connect, Grow, Build, Belong’?

Big Sunday exists to bring people together to contribute to communities. Big Sunday and this years, Fund My Community theme, have values perfectly aligned, as our purpose is to connect, serve and impact lives within the community. Our success in this years’ grant, will provide a way in which we can connect with new volunteers in assisting other community organisations to grow and build, enabling them to have greater impact in their area of operations.

What does this organisation do?

Big Sunday is ordinary, everyday people combining together to contribute back to those in our community who are struggling to survive, are marginalised through isolation, poverty, disability or sickness. Big Sunday acts to provide hope to hopeless situations through practical service.
At Big Sunday there are opportunities for every passion, talent, skill and age. Projects are scheduled throughout the year, and can last anywhere from one hour to a full day. These projects may range from a complete renovation, handyman jobs at local not-for-profits, yard clean ups, visiting the elderly in nursing homes, assisting local animal shelters to providing social inclusion opportunities for various people groups. What an essential project. Big Sunday is a hands on organization that has already benefited the community in particular those who are disadvantaged and unable to live the life each and everyone of us desire and should expect. This van would be such a valuable asset whereby it could be used to support other care organizations as well
