Autism Family retreats and fun

This one

to facilitate an environment that is rich in acceptance and diversity.

How will the funding be spent?

Asperlutely Autsome provides family camps and events in many parts of South Australia. For these to continue to be enjoyable, successful and safe, a large amount of equipment is required. Currently Asperlutley Autsome requires a roller door on their storage shed to allow for safe storage of our amazing large trailer which was purchased with our last successful grant application. Safety during camps requires first aid equipment and safe food storage and handling requires a fridge/freezer.

How will the project be delivered?

This project will enable Asperlutely Autsome to provide opportunities for whole families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder to participate in social activities that would otherwise be difficult or impossible for them. These activities will improve the well-being and quality of life for ASD families - including carers and siblings - through inclusion, acceptance and understanding. Camps are provided at minimal costs to families, and are open to all who live with ASD - thus ensuring inclusion

How many people will directly benefit from this project?

Approx.2000 (100-15 families per camp. 8 camps/events per year for the life of the equipment. 20 women at womens retreat)

How will you measure the impact of this project?

feedback forms are sent out to families post each Asperlutly Autsome retreat or activity and the information collated to improve each camp or activity. Outcome measures are used at each Lego group session to ensure targets of social skills and social inclusion are obtained.
Asperlutley autsome works closely with communities for children, Autism SA

How will the project fit this year's theme of ‘Connect, Grow, Build, Belong’?

Asperlutley Autsome brings families living with children with Autism together which then encourages families to build relationships outside the organisation.
Our women's retreat connects women with Autism together to encourage a sense of belonging.
by encouraging the whole family to participate Asperlutley Autsome creates a sense of belonging that grows beyond our camps and events to expand into the community.

Organisation details

Organisation Name

Asperlutley Autsome

What does this organisation do?

Asperlutely Autsome is a community organisation formed by families for families living with Autism Spectrum disorders in South Australia. Asperlutely Autsome members find support and develop skills in an environment of encouragement and acceptance where everyone is valued and being different is normal.
We organise social events and weekends away that are ASD friendly, giving the opportunity for people and families living with ASD to build skills, socialise and participate in activities that would otherwise be difficult for them.

It is our aim to facilitate an environment that is rich in acceptance and diversity.

For the whole family unit to gain from time out with other ASD families where everyone feels welcome and accepted.

Asperlutley Autsome currently runs over 5 Autism family friendly camps during the year, along with school holiday day activities and regular lego social skills groups, home-school workshops and social groups.

Families living with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) often find holidaying and getting out and about in the community difficult as their loved ones can become easily overwhelmed and members of the public often judge their behaviour.

We organise social events and weekends away that are ASD friendly, giving the opportunity for people and families living with ASD to build skills, socialise and participate in activities that would otherwise be difficult for them.

Our loved ones are predominantly why we are all here.
We all have melt downs, behaviours, quirks and stimms
It is the way the general public watch and sadly judge a lot of the time.
It is our loved ones that are diagnosed with ASD that can bring us together

Our Asperlutely Autsome retreats give you the time as a family to interact with others in a similar situation, where you can join in as much or as little as your familiy chooses to.

Maybe it will be one of our family barbeques, our sensory Sunday sessions or craft that will have you wanting to join in...
Maybe it will be winding down out the front of your cabin with a cold drink at the end of the day.

It is always a little scary coming away for the first time, but in our experience the kids cope so well- you will be amazed.....

No matter where you or your loved one is on the spectrum you are welcome.

Success of the project can also be guaged by how families involved are able to engage with other organisations including (but not limited to) health and social services, childcare, preschool and school. By engaging with Asperlutely Autsome, families can begin to build their capacity to both seek out and accept assistance from necessary services.

Families are able to share experiences and assist and support each other in exploring and pursuing services for their families, share therapy ideas and resources and assist to build families capacities to support their family member as they strive towards inclusion in social and community activities, education and employment
