Novita's All Abilities Space

Fmycommunity 2017

A fun space to connect people of all abilities in Whyalla

Project details

Budget

$85,500.00

How will the funding be spent?

With your support, we hope to build a fun and friendly area where kids, young people and adults living with disability, and their families, can safely play, socialise, cook a BBQ, enjoy the outdoors and connect with new people. This grant would be spent on purchasing accessible play & leisure equipment (e.g. in-ground trampoline, sensory swing, BBQ, seating) and constructing a secure and welcoming space (e.g. fencing, ramps, shade sail, rubber ground-coating, paving, water, power, plants etc.).

How will the project be delivered?

Phase 1: Application for funding
Phase 2: Final design and plans, and receive Council and community consultation approvals
Phase 3: Purchase equipment and build
Phase 4: Open and celebrate this wonderful outcome!

How many people will directly benefit from this project?

Novita's Whyalla facility directly services approx. 200 kids, young people and adults living with disability, and their families. We hope that they will invite their friends and extended family to share this space with them too!

How will you measure the impact of this project?

1.‘How much did we do?’ - We will posses clear evidence of the built facility, containing the purchased equipment.
2.‘How well did we do it?’ - We will gather feedback from the families of Novita's community of kids, young people and adults living with disability, and other stakeholders.
3.‘Are the beneficiaries better off?’ - We will gather feedback from the families of Novita's community of kids, young people and adults living with disability, and other stakeholders.

How will the project fit this year's theme of ‘Connect, Grow, Build, Belong’?

Kids, teens and adults living with disability often find it difficult to access equipment and spaces that enable them to enjoy the outdoors and connect with others. This can be even more challenging in regional areas. Ideally located at Novita's Whyalla facility, we're hoping to build a welcoming space that provides safe, accessible play equipment, shade, outdoor seating and a BBQ for everyone, of all abilities, to enjoy and share.

This would be an excellent facility for the Whyalla community, allowing families to come together & enjoy time together while their children play in a safe & inspring environment allowing them to grow & have fun at the same time.

Have always had a soft spot for Novita. Helping a marginalised section of our community; giving disabled kids the best possible prospect of some normality in their lives ...
