Fox Creek Bike Park: Sustainable Management Models

What's being decided?

We are seeking community feedback from users of Fox Creek Bike Park (FCBP) on their experience and suggestions for improvement.

ForestrySA has commenced a Request for Proposal process to identify potential sustainable management models for the park and community feedback is essential in the evaluation process. Viable management models could include a commercial license, council or community leases, industry-led development, community initiatives or any other mechanism.

Background

For nearly 30 years, Fox Creek Bike Park has been a premier mountain biking destination for all ages in South Australia. The park suffered extensive damage and was closed for 12 months following the 2019 Cudlee Creek bushfire, necessitating a multi-year recovery plan. Since its redevelopment, FCBP’s popularity has surged, welcoming over 120,000 visits in 2023-24.

The landowner, ForestrySA is a statutory corporation responsible for managing public plantation forests for commercial production, native vegetation for conservation and cultural heritage. It operates in accordance with best practice standards for forestry operations and sustainable environmental management.

With the FCBP’s growing popularity, ForestrySA must consider a new management model to maintain, and enhance, the asset without compromising the agency’s core operations. ForestrySA will do this by instigating a public Request for Proposal (RFP) to identify potential viable models and partners.

In addition to the formal RFP process from potential partners, ForestrySA is seeking community feedback by way of this survey. All feedback will be considered alongside the formal proposal assessment.
