Consultation has concluded. Thanks for your contributions.

SA Health would like your input on a new five year SA Cancer Plan to guide how cancer care will be provided in South Australia.

What's being decided?

We have developed a draft SA Cancer Plan for South Australia with input from the community through various channels such as YourSAy engagement, state-wide workshops, targeted meetings, and forums. See Development of new SA Cancer Plan | YourSAy for the previous engagement that has informed this Plan.

We have used this information to understand what is currently happening in cancer care in South Australia, and to shape future strategies which have informed the draft SA Cancer Plan.

Background

Implementation of a new SA Cancer Plan is a 2022 State Government election commitment.

The SA Cancer Plan is a five-year plan which provides clear guidance to SA Health and its partners regarding an agreed vision, priorities, future directions and approach to cancer care. When we talk about cancer care we include all domains of the cancer spectrum including:

  • prevention
  • screening
  • diagnosis
  • treatment
  • survivorship
  • palliative care
  • cancer data collection
  • research
  • clinical trials.

The objectives of the five-year plan are to:

  • reduce the incidence of cancer occurring in the population
  • improve the cancer experience for those diagnosed with cancer, and their families and support workers and carers
  • improve long term survivorship after diagnosis.

SA Health and other organisations involved in cancer care in South Australia will use the SA Cancer Plan to guide decisions, focus efforts and inform high level future decisions on service planning and resource allocations, including where SA Health funded cancer services will be delivered.

An Action Plan will support the SA Cancer Plan, providing additional detail on how activities will be actioned, who will action them and when that will occur.

Get involved

We are committed to produce an accurate, achievable Cancer Plan for South Australians that also provides aspirations and directions to work towards in the future. We are keen to hear if the draft Plan addresses the needs of people involved in cancer care in South Australia.

Please read the Plan and respond to the survey below to give your feedback on the draft SA Cancer Plan.

What are the next steps?

This consultation has now closed

We will consider your feedback to finalise the SA Cancer Plan. We will complete the final Plan by the end of 2023 and will make it available on the SA Health website.

We will start to implement the Plan at the end of 2023 including the development of an Action Plan which will outline how, who will implement and the timeframes for implementation.
