Consultation has concluded. Thanks for your contributions.

Thank you for your feedback. The final Model of Care has been uploaded, in addition to the consultation summary.

We are seeking your feedback on the draft Model of Care to ensure the new Mental Health Rehabilitation units will meet the needs of our community.

What's being decided?

The Office of the Chief Psychiatrist has developed a draft Model of Care to guide Local Health Networks on the operation of the new mental health rehabilitation units.

Your feedback on the draft Model of Care will ensure we consider the values, experiences and cultural beliefs of the community and service providers in the design and implementation of the units.

Background

The government has committed to the establishment and operation of seventy-two new non-acute mental health inpatient rehabilitation beds.

The beds will:

  • provide a longer stay service where patients have the time and space they need for rehabilitation and therapy.
  • be established as three twenty-four bed non-acute units as part of or adjacent to the following hospitals:
    • Modbury Hospital
    • Noarlunga Hospital
    • Queen Elizabeth Hospital

What's been done so far?

To help inform the model of care, we held two workshops in late 2022 with approximately 50 participants across both days. Attendees came from a variety of services, disciplines and people with Lived Experience to allow for healthy and practical discussions.

In addition, the SA Lived Experience Leadership and Advocacy Network (LELAN) undertook interviews with consumers and carers who have recently used existing mental health rehabilitation services to ensure their input is also considered.
