The draft Code Amendment allows building height for large (over 1 hectare) retirement villages and supported living developments to increase to up to 4-6 storeys, to provide more accommodation for our ageing population and enable them to continue living in their own communities. The draft Code Amendment provides more guidance on how shared rooms and communal open spaces are designed, including being conveniently located near residences and having good access to sunlight, appropriate seating, lighting and other features. The draft Code Amendment revises communal open space policy to clarify that private open space, such as private balconies, can be substituted with communal open space, such as shared rooftop gardens, with a lower amount of space required per apartment.
