What is being decided?

The Adelaide Mt Lofty Ranges Bushfire Management Area Plan (BMAP) has been developed through engagement with local councils, CFS volunteers and other stakeholder groups to identify assets at risk from bushfire and determine appropriate treatment works to reduce that risk. A community survey was also circulated in January 2016 to capture additional local information. So far the plan captures approximately 2000 assets and includes treatments such as community engagement, property preparedness and policies and codes of practice. The Bushfire Management Committee is now asking the community for further input to ensure the plan is comprehensive and captures what the community values.

The Bushfire Management Committee is looking for your input on the draft BMAP. We want your feedback on what's contained in the Plan, such as the assets at risk from bushfire, and treatment strategies that will be implemented to manage the bushfire risk in the local area.

How to have your say

You can have your say by commenting in the online discussion, via the CFS online submission form, or send in a submission comment (PDF, 95KB) via email: cfs.bushfiremanagementplanning@sa.gov.au or post: 'Attention of CFS Bushfire Management Planning Unit', Postal PO Box 2468, ADELAIDE SA 5001.

Feedback is being sought on the Draft Adelaide Mt Lofty Ranges Bushfire Management Area Plan. The plan comprises the following:

For more information you can visit the Bushfire Management Plans page on the CFS website.

How can your input influence the decision?

Your input will assist the BMC members in deciding on the inclusion of additional assets or changes to treatment strategies. Your feedback will contribute to the overall goal of improving bushfire safety across the Adelaide Mt Lofty Ranges.

There will also be four Open House style Community Meetings in Stirling, Gumeracha, Blackwood and the Gawler/Baross area - click here for details.

How will your input be used?

The Bushfire Management Committee will be considering community feedback throughout the public consultation period and a final report submitted to the State Bushfire Coordination Committee in late June 2016.

The Adelaide Mt Lofty Ranges Bushfire Management Committee (BMC) would like to thank everyone for their comments on the Adelaide Mt Lofty Ranges Bushfire Management Area Plan. The Plan has been approved by the State Bushfire Coordination Committee and the Adelaide Mt Lofty Ranges BMC has begun work on implementation planning, monitoring and reporting.

Relevant stakeholders are continuing to work on a risk assessment process (to be consistent across all Bushfire Management Areas) to enable the inclusion of environmental assets as assets at risk from bushfire. This does not negate the need to consider the impact on environmental assets when implementing risk treatments in approved BMAPs.

Any changes to multiple, significant or landscape wide assets or risk treatments may necessitate additional periods of public consultation. The CFS Bushfire Management Planning Unit is maintaining a list of persons/organisations interested in being notified should further opportunities for public consultation arise. If you would like your details added to this list please email: CFS.BushfireManagementPlanning@sa.gov.au or phone (08) 8463 4151.
