Arkaroo Rock Upgrade Project – Complete September 2025

The Department for Environment and Water is pleased to advise that the upgrades to the Arkaroo Rock (Akurra Adnya) walking trail and viewing area are complete, and reopened to the public.
- The existing steel barrier has been replaced with a new protective screen depicting Adnyamathanha story elements.
- The old viewing platform has been removed, and a new viewing area with seating and interpretive signage has been sensitively constructed to better blend with the landscape.
- A bridge on the trail has been removed and replaced by stone steps to cross the dry creekbed.
- The artwork has been carefully cleaned of accumulated dust by a conservator from ArtLab.
- All works have been developed and completed in consultation with traditional Adnyamathanha custodians, and ground-disturbing construction works observed by Adnyamathanha monitors.
- An improved carpark with new toilet facilities is now open.
