Arkaroo Rock Upgrade Project – Update March 2025

The Department for Environment and Water advises that upgrades to Arkaroo Rock (Akurra Adnya) will commence in April 2025.

The upgrades will involve the following activities:

• removing the existing steel barrier attached to the rock shelter
• removing the existing viewing deck around the rock shelter
• installing a new interpretive screen over the face of the rock shelter, which will not involve drilling into the overhanging rock although would include excavation for footings
• constructing a new viewing area
• cleaning the artwork (dust removal only).

The walking trail and surrounding area will be closed between 28 April and October 2025 while works are undertaken.

Throughout the upgrade works, three Adnyamathanha monitors will observe all ground disturbing construction works at the site.
