Consultation outcome

Proclamation of the new Assisted Reproductive Treatment Regulations 2024 and changed Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act 1988 occurred on 28 November 2024.

These updated and new laws commenced operation on 26 February 2025 and reflect a positive change in community views which:

• acknowledge that knowledge of our own genetic heritage and where we come from is a human right
• actively support the health and wellbeing of donor-conceived people.

The publicly accessible South Australian Donor Conception Register (DCR) is now available online.

The DCR balances the privacy of people who have donated sperm, eggs or embryos with the rights of donor-conceived people to know their genetic heritage information.
