We want to hear from parents and caregivers about their experience using the current Blue Book.

What is being decided?

The Child and Family Health Service is reviewing the contents of the My Health and Development Record, more commonly known as the Blue Book, and we need your help to do so.

Research tells us that what happens in a child’s first five years makes the biggest difference to their future health, development and happiness. With this in mind we want to ensure that the Blue Book provides parents and caregivers with useful and relevant information and advice to raise happy and healthy children.

How can your input influence the decision?

To ensure that the Blue Book continues to be a useful resource, we are asking parents and caregivers to provide their feedback. You can have your say by:

  • completing the online survey
  • joining the online discussion forum
  • providing feedback via email
  • posting your response to: Blue Book Feedback, The Child and Family Health Service, 295 South Terrace, Adelaide SA 5000

Some of the questions we are seeking feedback on:

  • What features or information do you find useful in the Blue Book?
  • What could be improved in the Blue Book?
  • What information is most important when it comes to caring for a newborn, toddler and preschooler?

How will your input be used?

We will consider all feedback given during this consultation, which will help inform the 2015/16 Blue Book edition. The new edition will be available online and in hard copy from early 2016.

For more information about the Blue Book you can visit the Child and Youth Health website.

Background

My Health and Development Record, more commonly known as the Blue Book, is provided to almost 20,000 South Australian families each year. It is a resource for parents and caregivers to record their child’s health and development milestones, includes immunisation information, and a help section that includes organisations that can be contacted for information, support and advice in the early years.
