Dog and Cat Management (Breeder Reforms) Amendment Act 2025
The Dog and Cat Management (Breeder Reforms) Amendment Act 2025 was passed by Parliament on Wednesday 18 June 2025.
Before the amendments are brought into effect, further work will be undertaken to:
- review and update regulations to reflect the amended legislation
- review standards and guidelines for breeding, and determine breeder licence requirements, and
- establish systems and underpinning policy to support implementation of the new provisions.
Commencement dates for the changes will be set as this work is progressed, with a transitional period to include community education about the new requirements and to enable stakeholders to prepare for changes.
Future updates will be provided on the Dog and Cat Management Board’s website.
