What's being decided?

Children and young people in care are important members of our community.

We are creating a draft Child and Youth Engagement Strategy which aims to create ways to make sure the voice of children and young people is heard and that their feedback on the services that they receive and influence the design of future services.

The vision of the strategy is to 'build a better child protection system, one that listens and empowers children and young people to have a voice in decision making'.

The strategy provides a framework for engagement with children and young people across the Department and those who have left care.

Background

We are committed to engaging and working with children and young people who experience the child protection system.

A key direction of the Department for Child Protection’s 2019-2022 Strategic Plan is to engage and work with children and young people to improve the services that impact them.

To help build on our capacity to engage and work in partnership with children and young people who experience the child protection system, we have been working with young people to develop a Child and Youth Engagement Strategy.

The strategy aims to provide opportunities for engagement across the diverse groups of children and young people who experience our system.
