Background

The Crown land on Kangaroo Island under consideration for disposal adjoins the proposed KI Golf Course, which was approved as a major development in 2016. Since that determination was made the project has changed ownership and undergone a redesign. The new developer has sought a variation to the original major development authorisation to redesign a portion of the golf course. This was due to further on-site ground design and to enable players to take advantage of the coastal scenery, which includes a section of Crown land.

The major development variation was approved by the Minister for Planning in May 2017. This section of Crown land has limited practical public access points and it is difficult to access the coast from the clifftops. Selling the land would therefore have little impact on public access. It should be noted that the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources is not being asked to decide whether the golf course development goes ahead.
