Department for Infrastructure and Transport Suicide Prevention Action Plan 2025-2028

Provide your feedback on our draft Suicide Prevention Action Plan.

What's being decided?

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) is developing its first Suicide Prevention Action Plan (Action Plan).

To help inform the development of DIT’s Action Plan we are seeking feedback from the general public.

Background

The Suicide Prevention Act 2021 (the Act) was passed in South Australia to ensure a continued statewide focus on reducing suicide. It guides the implementation of best practice suicide prevention strategies, including training and education, and identifies populations most at risk of suicide.

Following this, the South Australian Suicide Prevention Plan 2023-2026 (the Plan) was launched. The Plan sets out a vision for compassionate, resilient and connected communities that support wellbeing and prevent suicide.

To ensure a shared responsibility approach, the Act requires ten State Government departments and agencies (referred to as “prescribed State authorities”) to develop their own Suicide Prevention Action Plan.

DIT was one of the agencies identified as a prescribed State authority and has prepared a draft Suicide Prevention Action Plan.

DIT’s Suicide Prevention Action Plan 2025-2028 considers both DIT employees and members of the community who they engage with. It aims to:

  • raise awareness and reduce the stigma attached to suicide, suicide-related distress and the risk factors contributing to suicide
  • empower DIT employees, and people they engage with, to connect with or connect others with compassionate, safe and timely support
  • promote health seeking and reduce barriers to seeking assistance
  • improve DIT’s ‘postvention’ response.
