Review of Dog Fence rateable area

Have your say on the proposal to increase the rateable area of the Dog Fence to ensure that, in the future, the Dog Fence can be replaced before it reaches the end of its serviceable life.
What's being decided?
The Dog Fence Board and Livestock SA have identified an opportunity to expand the area in which annual Dog Fence rates are payable (rateable area), which will allow the Board to carry out an annual fence replacement program.
An expanded rateable area will better align with the areas that receive the greatest benefits from the Dog Fence and will result in a Dog Fence capable of protecting all land managers.

Background
The South Australian Dog Fence runs for 2,150km from the coast at Fowlers Bay to the border of New South Wales and South Australia near Broken Hill.
With funding received from the Commonwealth Government ($10 million), the State Government ($10 million) and the livestock industry ($5 million), 1,600km of the Dog Fence is currently being rebuilt and is on schedule for completion in 2024.
To ensure the Dog Fence doesn’t deteriorate back to its previous condition again, the Dog Fence Board and Livestock SA have reviewed how the ongoing maintenance of the fence is funded, and as a result are seeking feedback on a proposal to expand the Dog Fence rateable area.
The proposed expansion would bring in an additional $350,000 of rate revenue each year and would allow an ongoing fence replacement program to occur.

We will consider your feedback to finalise the Dog Fence Board and Livestock SA’s Long Term Investment Plan for the Dog Fence, which aims to ensure the fence is replaced as it ages.
