We want your feedback on the draft Adelaide Plains Water Allocation Plan.

What's being decided?

Have your say on the draft Adelaide Plains Water Allocation Plan by providing comments and submissions as part of the consultation process.

The overall aim of water allocation plans is to ensure that water is managed in a sustainable way, so that it continues to be available and of good quality to provide economic, cultural, social and environmental benefits.

They are legal documents that provide rules for the management of water licences and approvals.

Your feedback will be considered in finalising the plan ready for its adoption.

Background

The draft Adelaide Plains Water Allocation Plan is a groundwater plan that will update and replace the current Northern Adelaide Plains water allocation plan, and is also the first such plan for the Central Adelaide area (and the small Dry Creek area).

The draft Adelaide Plains Water Allocation Plan is based on scientific investigations and modelling, to help understand how groundwater behaves and how it is affected by water extraction. This knowledge was combined with input from community advisers about how they use groundwater, and how it can best be managed to maximise benefits to the community and the environment.

I'd like to give a big shout out to the members of the water allocation plan advisory committees. Your involvement was critical to groundtruthing the draft plan and understanding local issues.
