<p><strong>We would like to hear your thoughts on the draft Water Security Statement and how we can best be prepared to address challenges and progress opportunities about water security.</strong></p><h2>What&#39;s being decided?</h2><p>We have developed a <a href="https://yoursay.sa.gov.au/68674/widgets/336825/documents/202863">draft Water Security Statement</a> to provide an overview of South Australia&rsquo;s water resources and how they are used and managed.</p><p>Past water-related investments in infrastructure and reforms across South Australia have provided high levels of water security for the vast majority of the state&rsquo;s population.</p><p>The key challenge now is to:</p><ul><li>build on past investment and ensure all South Australians have adequate water security</li><li>sustainably grow the South Australian economy.</li></ul><p>Having an acceptable quantity and quality of water for people, communities, industry, and the environment that is affordable now and into the future is essential.</p><p>The <a href="https://yoursay.sa.gov.au/68674/widgets/336825/documents/202863" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">draft Water Security Statement </a>provides a state-wide snapshot of water security across the state and highlights the actions underway to address existing and emerging water security challenges.</p><p>The draft statement includes 10 strategic priorities, from now until July 2024, that relate to preparing for future challenges like climate change and increasing demand for water.</p><h2>Background</h2><p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;">Due to our climate and geography, we often experience low rainfall and droughts. This can put our water supplies at risk. <p><strong>This is your opportunity to have your say on the government&#39;s approach to ensuring reliable and secure electricity for South Australians, now and into the future.</strong></p><h2>What&#39;s being decided?</h2><p>The South Australian Government is advancing the Firm Energy Reliability Mechanism (FERM) framework to support sufficient long duration firm capacity to ensure secure, reliable and resilient electricity supply for South Australia, at least cost to consumers.</p><p>The Department for Energy and Mining has developed regulations to support the implementation of the FERM.</p><p>This final Stage 2 Consultation offers industry and other stakeholders the opportunity to give feedback on specific design issues, to ensure the scheme works as intended.</p><p><br></p><hr><p><br></p><h2>Background</h2><p>In 2024, the Department for Energy and Mining ran the first stage of consultation, asking for feedback on a concept design for the proposed Firm Energy Reliability Mechanism. Establishing baseline data for the conservation of Koonalda Cave 

<p><strong>Have your say on a new Community Engagement Charter that will change the way councils consult and engage with their communities. </strong></p><h2>What&#39;s being decided?</h2><p>The Office of Local Government is conducting statewide consultation on a new <a href="https://yoursay.sa.gov.au/101116/widgets/464675/documents/310229" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Community Engagement Charter</a> (the Charter) that councils will be required to comply with.</p><h2>Background</h2><p>Councils are always working with their communities to make important decisions, like setting annual business plans and budgets, deciding how council rates are collected, managing parks and public spaces, and even shaping how the council itself is structured.</p><p>When councils undertake community consultation on these important decisions, they are often required to consult with their communities as the <a href="https://www.legislation.sa.gov.au/LZ/C/A/LOCAL%20GOVERNMENT%20ACT%201999.aspx" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><em>Local Government Act 1999</em></a> (the Act) requires them to. Right now, the Act sets some minimum standards that have been the same for more than 20 years, and apply across the board.</p><p>But times have changed, and so have expectations. Changes to the Act will replace these past requirements with a new Charter. The Charter sets principles for engagement and also lists minimum actions that councils must comply with to meet these standards. These mandatory actions vary according to what councils are consulting on, to ensure that councils are making the optimal effort to reach all community members who are interested in what they are doing.</p><p>These changes will come into effect once the Charter is officially published. <p><strong>Give your views on how to make the mental health system in regional and remote South Australia fit for the future. </strong></p><h2>What&#39;s being decided?</h2><p>Country SA PHN and the Department for Health and Wellbeing (SA Health) are working together to develop a Joint Regional Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan 2026 &ndash; 2029 (Joint Regional Plan) for country South Australia. To do this, we have launched &lsquo;Working together for the mental health of country South Australia&rsquo; &ndash; a conversation to develop the 3-year plan. We want to make sure that people in Country SA have access to the best possible care, now and into the future.</p><p>The Joint Regional Plan is part of the State and Federal Governments shared vision to build a mental health system that understands and responds to the priority health needs of local communities. The plan will be informed by people with a lived experience of mental illness, their families and carers, along with service providers and the broader community. The Joint Regional Plan should identify ways to effectively plan for how services should be developed, to meet gaps and find new ways of working to improve mental health and social and emotional wellbeing outcomes for people in our communities.</p><p>We invite you to have your say to help build a mental health system for country South Australian&rsquo;s that is fit for the future. The consultation is open to everyone, whether you live in regional or remote South Australia, work for an organisation that provides mental health programs, have lived experience of mental health, or are a family, carer, or friend of someone with mental health concerns. We want to hear from you!</p><h2>Background</h2><p>Building on the<em> </em><a href="https://www.countrysaphn.com.au/read-a-summary-of-our-latest-needs-assessment-2025-28/"><em>Country SA PHN Needs Assessment Report 2025-</em><em>2028</em></a><em>,</em> mental health services should be accessible for people living in rural and remote regions, responsive for people experiencing suicidal distress or crisis, and provide support options that are matched to an individual&rsquo;s needs. We want to understand more about factors impacting access to appropriate and responsive mental health services, including early intervention and prevention, for people of all ages in regional South Australia. This will assist future collaborative planning by Country SA PHN and SA Health to address regional priorities and identify what is working well to deliver positive results in regional and remote communities.</p><p>Anyone is welcome to provide feedback on their experience or interactions with health services, however we a particularly interested to hear from:</p><ul type="disc"><li>People living in country South Australia;</li><li>People with lived experience of mental illness, suicide or suicidal distress;</li><li>People who have interacted or accessed mental health services in regional and remote South Australia, including family, carers and friends; and</li><li>Organisations that work with or represent the above groups</li></ul><p>This survey acknowledges that mental health and mental-ill health are terms that do not encompass the holistic nature of wellbeing that is important for First Nations people. Accelerating SA’s transition to a circular economy: South Australia’s waste strategy 2025–2030

<p><strong>We want to hear your views on proposals to improve and strengthen South Australia&rsquo;s laws for compulsory education.</strong></p><h2>What&#39;s being decided?</h2><p>The government is planning to change the <em>Education and Children&rsquo;s Services Act 2019</em> and associated regulations to assist with ensuring students are enrolled in school, attend the school in which they are enrolled, or participate in an approved learning program. </p><p>We want your feedback on a draft amendment bill and regulations. </p><p>The proposed changes in the draft bill and regulations include:</p><ul><li>requiring warning letters to be sent before taking legal action against parents for a failure to enrol their child or to ensure they attend or participate </li><li>reducing the time parents have to inform the school why their child is absent (3 days instead of 5) </li><li>enabling Authorised Officers visiting homes to require relevant information about a child&#39;s enrolment, not just request it</li><li>requiring children to be enrolled in a school suitable for their age and education level</li><li>removing the danger of being affected by an infectious or contagious disease as a valid reason for a child&#39;s failure to attend school or participate in an approved learning program</li><li>clarifying the circumstances in which non-attendance isn&#39;t an offence and the types of information parents must provide when requested by the Department for Education.</li></ul><p>Additionally, we want your opinion on:</p><ul><li>whether fines should be introduced for parents who fail to enrol their child in school or ensure they attend</li><li>whether parents should only have the option to enrol their child in a South Australian school, unless an exception applies or the enrolment has been approved by the Department for Education</li><li>how we could best support all South Australian students to attend a South Australian School where possible. </li></ul><p>Your feedback is important to shape these changes.</p><h2>Background</h2><p>Regular school attendance is important for both children and the community. It helps children do well in school and supports their overall wellbeing. Missing school regularly can lead to negative outcomes for children and young people. </p><p>There are many reasons why a child might not attend school, this may include valid reasons like sickness, but sometimes children are absent without a valid reason. Parents are legally required to make sure their child goes to school and to notify the school if their child is absent.</p><p>Schools have systems to follow up on absences, find out why a child isn&#39;t attending, and create plans to help them return. The Department for Education also has special programs to help vulnerable students in government schools.</p><p>Most students attend school regularly, but some do not. Addressing non-attendance at school

<p><strong>We are seeking your views on proposed changes to education laws to implement recommendations of the Disability Royal Commission.</strong></p><h2>What&#39;s being decided?</h2><p>The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability made 15 recommendations to prevent discrimination and promote safe, quality and inclusive education in all Australian schools. </p><p>To implement some of those recommendations, we need to amend South Australian education laws. </p><p>Draft legislation has now been developed which will support the implementation of the following two recommendations: </p><ul><li>Recommendation 7.1 - Provide equal access to mainstream education and enrolment </li><li>Recommendation 7.2 &ndash; Prevent the inappropriate use of exclusionary discipline against students with disability </li></ul><p>Your feedback on the proposed changes will be important in finalising the amendments that will be put to Parliament.</p><h2>Background</h2><p>In 2023 the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (Disability Royal Commission) made 222 recommendations on how to improve laws, policies, structures and practices to ensure a more inclusive society that supports the rights and independence of people with disability. Engineering Requirements for Land Division 

<p><strong>To seek stakeholder insights and suggested recommendations on how the profile and uptake of languages education in South Australia can be improved, repositioning language learning as a critical link to achieving a multilingual and culturally diverse society. </strong></p><h2>What&#39;s being decided?</h2><p>The Multicultural Education and Languages Committee (MELC), an advisory committee to the Minister for Education, Training and Skills, is exploring strategies to increase the number of students studying a language in South Australia. The Committee is seeking stakeholder feedback on five elements which have been identified as some of the key focus areas for discussion within the current landscape of languages education.</p><p>The Committee is seeking constructive discussion and strategies to revive and reposition languages education as a critical component of a student&#39;s learning journey that will improve the number of students choosing to study a language in schools moving forward, and provide improved pathways to continuing their studies at university level.</p><p>The feedback will be used to help inform a final advisory paper for the Minister&#39;s consideration.</p><h2>Background</h2><p>MELC has undertaken extensive research to explore the current circumstances surrounding the study of languages in schools through to tertiary-level language studies, to identify some of the key barriers being experienced by schools and universities in attracting language students.</p><p>The Committee has developed five key focus areas based on the research which play a critical role in improving the profile, quality and uptake of languages education. It provides governments, businesses, industry and not-for-profit organisations with the data and direction to better plan for and respond to growth and change in our community and towns, while achieving our conservation goals.</p><p>The Plan identifies land and long-term infrastructure needs to support sustainable growth within the region. It reflects the unique and changing profile of the region&rsquo;s population, environment and economy across its vast rural areas and varied townships.</p><h2>Background</h2><p>The Commission, with support from Planning and Land Use Services (PLUS), is currently preparing six new country regional plans for South Australia:</p><ul><li>Kangaroo Island</li><li>Yorke Peninsula and Mid North</li><li>Eyre and Western</li><li>Far North</li><li>Limestone Coast</li><li>Murray Mallee.</li></ul><p>These plans play an important role in guiding sustainable growth by identifying land use and long-term infrastructure over a 15-to-30-year period. They outline where new housing and employment areas will be located, how services will be delivered, and what infrastructure is needed while exploring different growth scenarios.</p><p>In 2024, Visioning Workshops were held in Murray Bridge and Berri to gather insights to support the initial development of the Plan. Stakeholders unable to attend the workshops were invited to provide feedback through a survey hosted on the YourSAy platform. Limestone Coast Regional Plan
