EPA 30-Year Strategy
Protecting South Australia's natural environment is everyone's responsibility.
Have your say on the EPA's long-term direction.
What's being decided?
We're preparing a 30-Year Strategy to guide the EPA's role as South Australia's independent environment protection regulator in a rapidly changing world.
We want to hear from the South Australian community, as well as our stakeholders across state and local government, industry, and experts in key sectors, on what we need to do now to prepare for the future.
Why now?
The EPA is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025. With 30 years of protecting South Australia’s environment to look back on, we're looking ahead to 2055 by preparing our first ever 30-Year Strategy. The 30-Year Strategy will set out how the EPA will help deliver a healthy, valued, and resilient environment in 2055.
The strategy will acknowledge the need for us to adapt and:
- Anticipate what the world will look like in 2055
- Set the direction for our regulatory approach into the future
- Outline what we need to do now to prepare.
We're seeking feedback on the trends that will change how we operate, how our purpose and approach will need to change to help us adapt, and the existing strengths that we need to build on. The Regulating for Tomorrow discussion paper includes more detail about the EPA in 2025, the current trends shaping our future environment, and our early thoughts on a vision for 2055 and how the EPA could evolve.
