The Kangaroo Island Bushfire Management Committee (BMC) is seeking input from the public on the draft Kangaroo Island Bushfire Management Area Plan (BMAP).
What is being decided?
The Kangaroo Island Bushfire Management Area Plan (BMAP) identifies assets at risk from bushfire and the prevention and preparedness strategies to reduce the risk to those assets. It is not an operational fire-fighting plan. The Kangaroo Island BMAP has been developed by the Kangaroo Island BMC through engagement with the Kangaroo Island Council, CFS volunteers, land managers and other stakeholders.

How can your input influence the decision?
Community input will assist BMC members in deciding on the inclusion of additional assets or changes to treatment strategies. Feedback will contribute to the overall goal of improving bushfire safety on Kangaroo Island.
The Kangaroo Island BMAP comprises of three parts:
The draft written component (PDF 2.5MB) outlining the planning process, content and other relevant information.
An interactive spatial web-based map(external website) that identifies assets and their risk levels, and includes pop up tables of information for each asset.
A spreadsheet (PDF 52KB) containing a list of all Kangaroo Island BMAP assetstheir risk rating and risk mitigation treatment strategies.
For more information on the bushfire management planning process go to CFS website: http://www.cfs.sa.gov.au.
The Bushfire Management Committee will be considering community feedback throughout the public consultation period which will run until 19th December 2016. A final report will be submitted to the State Bushfire Coordination Committee in early 2017.
