Provide your feedback on the draft regional Natural Resources Management Plan and draft Business Plan.

What is being decided?

The community is invited to provide feedback on Kangaroo Island’s Natural Resources Management (NRM) plan.

This includes the Kangaroo Island Strategic NRM Plan 2017-2027 (PDF 9.7MB) and the Kangaroo Island NRM Business Plan 2017-2020 (PDF 4.5MB).

The strategic NRM plan sets the direction and guides the NRM activities of all stakeholders in the region, while the business plan outlines expected income and funding sources, the allocation of funds, and activities that will be undertaken by the Board in the 2017/18 financial year.

How can your input influence the decision?

Having a healthy natural resource base and environment is fundamental to the sustainability of Kangaroo Island’s industries, and supports the wellbeing, happiness and lifestyles of the community.

Community members have a joint responsibility to care for the island and its beautiful environment, and to ensure future generations can continue to enjoy and benefit from it.

It is important that the plan reflects the community’s vision and values, as this will guide the NRM activities for the region. The plan needs to identify the opportunities and challenges the region is facing and outline how these should be addressed.

So far, the draft NRM plan has been fundamentally shaped by the community. The planning process has included an 'envisioning' workshop, nine focus group workshops, 14 ‘backyard’ workshops, three ‘big issues’ workshops, 11 ‘big issues’ discussion papers, an online survey, three water management public meetings and more than 65 interviews with individuals and agencies.

You can help by sharing your thoughts and suggestions in order to finalise the plan.
