Consultation has concluded. Thanks for your contributions.

We want your feedback on proposed changes to the Parks of Western and Central Kangaroo Island Management Plan 2022.

What's being decided?

After further on ground assessment and engagement with stakeholders, we have amended the maps of the Parks of Western and Central Kangaroo Island Management Plan 2022 to update the location of some trail routes. These proposed trails would link new sites within Flinders Chase National Park.

We are seeking your feedback on the proposed amendments to these maps.

Background

The Parks of Western and Central Kangaroo Island Management Plan was developed following the devastating impacts of the 2019-20 bushfires that affected wildlife, habitat, visitor facilities and infrastructure in many parks in the central and western end of Kangaroo Island.

The maps in the plan were developed to:

  • indicate management zones
  • support specific strategies
  • provide a geographical reference to the location and alignment of the proposed rebuilding of visitor facilities, infrastructure and trails following the bushfires.

When the management plan was developed, a new visitor hub was planned as the gateway to the western parks. Some sections of the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail (KIWT) were indicative and subject to change in the future, based on the development of a trails strategy, or operational needs.

The amendments outlined in the draft plan represent up-to-date maps indicating locations based on further planning work undertaken with stakeholders and the rebuilding of facilities and infrastructure in the parks following the bushfires.
