Not only do you get to have a say on this topic, but you could also win one of two Parks Passes for a year, which gives you and your family free access to SA’s national parks, including free camping!

Establishing the Adelaide Hills as an international mountain biking destination

We want your ideas on how to establish the Adelaide Hills as an international mountain biking destination.

Not only do you get to have a say on this topic, but you could also win one of two Parks Passes for a year, which gives you and your family free access to SA’s national parks, including free camping!

Mountain biking is a popular activity and a great form of exercise, promoting good physical and mental health, while also reconnecting us with nature in parks and reserves. The Adelaide Hills has excellent trails suitable for all skill levels in spots such as the Eagle Mountain Bike Park, Sturt Gorge, Cobbler Creek, Fox Creek, Belair National Park and Cleland Conservation Park. There are many forms of riding, from family-friendly rides on trails shared by walkers and horse riders, to high-adrenaline downhill biking on specially-designed and constructed trails.

Why are we doing this?

In March 2014, the South Australian Government made an election commitment to establish the Adelaide Hills as an international mountain biking destination. This would provide significant economic benefits to the hills area through improved tourism business opportunities and spin-offs in other types of outdoor recreation and sectors such as food, wine, accommodation and retail.

The plan to establish the Adelaide Hills as an international mountain bike destination is a large-scale vision that will bring together State Government departments, local councils, the tourism sector, business, sporting groups and the wider community.

A detailed technical report is currently being produced, containing recommendations on how to achieve this vision. As part of this process, we would value your suggestions on what might contribute to making the Adelaide Hills a must-visit location on every mountain biker’s bucket list.
