Northern Eyre Health Care project

Scope statement

The Northern Eyre Health Care project is tasked with developing and evaluating a model of primary care to improve health workforce recruitment and retention regionally by:

  • Design and implementation of a centralised coordination service for primary health care services
  • Creation of primary care hubs for health care delivery
  • Supporting medical practices with technological improvements
  • Upskilling the local medical practice workforce
  • Enhancing allied health and mental health service provision
  • Ensuring the cultural safety of primary health care services

While GP recruitment and retention is hoped to be a long-term, ultimate benefit that the project will build towards, direct GP recruitment is not within the scope of the project.

Direct provision of tertiary services (hospital based) is not within the scope of this project. However, given the inter-relation between regional hospitals and local GP clinics and other services, the tertiary services will be holistically considered where relevant throughout the project.

Geographically, the Northern Eyre Health Care project is working within the Northern Eyre region, namely the local government areas of Streaky Bay, Elliston, Wudinna, Kimba, Cleve and Franklin Harbour (Cowell). Services and issues outside of these areas are out of scope for the project.

It is noted the Northern Eyre Health Care project cannot be the answer to all issues around health care for the region, and it may not be possible to meet all community expectations within the project’s limitations.

However, the Northern Eyre Health Care project team will be proactive and responsive to consultation, feedback and co-design input by key stakeholders, community members, industry and wider stakeholders.
