Is there any known Aboriginal heritage in the application area?

The application area incorporates the Poonindie Cemetery, which once formed part of the former Poonindie Mission that was operated by the Church of England from 1850 to 1894. The former Poonindie Mission holds historical significance for many Aboriginal families across South Australia, and potentially other parts of Australia, who have historical connections to the mission, and/or whose ancestors may be buried at the cemetery. The Poonindie Cemetery is listed as an historic Aboriginal heritage site on AAR’s central archives.

For more information, including a concept map of the proposed Project works, see the Consultation Information Pack.

Will there be a community meeting to discuss the Project?

Yes. An Aboriginal Community consultation meeting will be held for Traditional Owners and any other interested Aboriginal parties:

    6:00 pm on Thursday 8 February 2024

Will I be notified of the Minister’s decision?

Traditional Owners and interested Aboriginal parties who provide feedback, a submission, or simply request AAR to notify them of the Minister’s decision during the consultation, will be notified once the Minister has decided the application. The outcome of the Minister’s decision will also be published on YourSAy.
