FAQs
What is the purpose of the review?
The purpose of the review is to ensure that sites, services, and programs outside mainstream education are delivering on the promise of public education for every child and young person.
Why these sites, services and programs?
Each setting has been chosen for inclusion in this review due to the role it plays within the government education system and the specific need it responds to (medical needs/ illness, behaviour, youth justice, geographic isolation etc).
What is being considered during the review?
The review will include collating and analysing current site, service and program intentions and outcomes, as well as systemic statewide data on delivery, uptake, attendance, and effectiveness of sites, services and programs. Operational elements will be considered including funding, enrolment policies, staffing and governance.
It will identify gaps and overlaps in sites, services and programs for specific cohorts or demographics, highlighting opportunities for systemic reform and new initiatives. By enhancing alignment and effectiveness in service delivery, it will ensure all children and young people thrive statewide including children from non-government sites who attend in-scope settings like Open Access College or Hospital School SA.
Are there plans to review other non-mainstream settings (eg outside of government sites?)
There are no plans for further reviews at this time.
Who else is being consulted?
Engagement activities are planned throughout September and October with children and young people, families, staff and leaders at the in-scope settings. Consultation is also planned with nominated mainstream sites, cross-government partners and key associations/peak bodies.
What should the settings expect from this review?
Operations at these settings will continue as normal for the rest of the year. The review will be completed by the end of 2025, and any recommended changes will be considered and implemented over the next few years to ensure the public education is supporting all children and young people across South Australia.
