Parents and caregivers survey opens
The Royal Commission wants to hear from families across South Australia about:
- your experiences with early childhood education and care
- what is important to you when choosing early childhood services
- any barriers you have experienced in finding early childhood education and care.
Formal submissions open
If you are an educator, industry body or education expert you can provide a formal submission to the Royal Commission on our website.
The Royal Commission will also issue two formal calls for submissions, with guiding questions to support the Commission’s inquiries.
More information about this will be shared in the coming weeks.
Public hearings
Public hearings will be held to help define the key issues for the Royal Commission.
The Royal Commission will hold its first round of hearings on Wednesday 25 January 2023 and Friday 27 January 2023.

Parents and caregivers forum
A number of public forums with parents and caregivers will be held online to hear directly from South Australian families.
We know the important role early education and care can provide to support little children’s best start for their journey of learning and development.
We want to hear directly from parents and carers in South Australia to understand your views and experiences of quality within the early childhood and education care system.
An online forum at 5.30pm on Tuesday 31 January 2023 with the Royal Commissioner Julia Gillard AC is an opportunity for you to share your views and help shape a new early education and care system in South Australia for your children.

There will also be dedicated sessions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and families of children with a disability.
Public hearings

Interim Report (3-year-old preschool delivery) released
The Royal Commission will issue an Interim Report with a focus on 3-year-old preschool delivery by 30 April 2023.
OSHC survey opens
The Royal Commission wants to hear from OSHC providers, OSHC Directors, school staff and school governing council members about the opportunities and challenges for OSHC in South Australia.
The Royal Commission is interesting in hearing:
- What do you believe are the biggest opportunities and challenges to expanding OSHC services?
- What are the issues that are unique to rural, regional and small schools when expanding OSHC services?
- How does the current regulation of OSHC impact the operation and expansion of services?
- What are the opportunities for OSHC for preschool age children?
