What is being decided?
A park management plan is being developed for the Simpson Desert Conservation Park and Regional Reserve, which will set the vision for the area and outline a set of directions to achieve the vision.
The Simpson Desert is the world’s largest sand dune desert, with the world’s longest parallel dunes. South Australia’s Simpson Desert Conservation Park and Simpson Desert Regional Reserve sit just within the SA border, abutting southern Queensland and the Northern Territory. This is the country of the Wangkangurru Yarluyandi people and a destination for travellers from near and far.
A discussion paper(PDF 1.9 MB) has been prepared outlining some of the key management issues for the park.
Responses to this discussion paper will help shape the park management plan, which is set to be adopted next year.
How can your input influence the decision?
Have your say on the Simpson Desert Conservation Park and Regional Reserve Management Plan Discussion Paper.
It has been created based on early input from key stakeholders associated with the Simpson Desert Conservation Park and Regional Reserve, and covers topics such as camping, 4WD driving, feral plants and animals, and mining.
Provide your feedback about the future management of the Simpson Desert parks by:
Feedback on the discussion paper will be taken into consideration for inclusion in the draft management plan, which will be released early next year.
The draft plan will then be open for public consultation for three months.
Feedback on the draft plan will be used to develop a final park plan which will be submitted to the Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Conservation for adoption in 2017.
The Simpson Desert Conservation Park and Simpson Desert Regional Reserve Draft Management Plan is currently being prepared for public consultation. Once released, it will be made available at www.environment.sa.gov.au/parkmanagement and on YourSAy.
