Help inform South Australia’s next 20-Year Infrastructure Strategy

What's being prepared?

Infrastructure SA is an independent South Australian Government agency that provides expert advice to the Government on coordination, planning, prioritisation, delivery and operation of infrastructure.

Infrastructure SA is preparing South Australia’s next 20-Year State Infrastructure Strategy (the Strategy). The Strategy will assess state-wide infrastructure needs, strategic goals and priorities to 2045.

To inform the development of the Strategy we have developed a Discussion Paper and are seeking feedback.

The Discussion Paper provides an overview of our economic context, current megatrends and their implications for infrastructure, relevant evidence and data as well as key issues and challenges that we need to consider in our planning. It includes a series of consultation questions to facilitate feedback.

Background

Infrastructure is central to our economic prosperity and the liveability of our State. It’s the backbone of a productive economy and it impacts and shapes every aspect of our day to day lives.

Our infrastructure is diverse - it includes roads, rail, ports, housing and facilities associated with health, culture, sports, tourism, education, energy, water and waste utilities. It also includes digital connectivity infrastructure and other physical assets that can act as enablers for industry and other sectors of the economy.

Under the Infrastructure SA Act 2018 (SA) Infrastructure SA must prepare a 20‑Year State Infrastructure Strategy and review it at least once every 5 years.

The first Strategy was released in 2020 and has been instrumental in guiding decision making and investment decisions for infrastructure since its publication.

The new 20-Year State Infrastructure Strategy will provide expert, independent advice to the South Australian Government on future strategic infrastructure needs. It will support Government to prioritise infrastructure spending, ensuring it is aligned to economic growth, while balancing social and environmental objectives.

Infrastructure SA welcomes submissions from anyone who would like to inform the development of the Strategy. Submissions must be received by 13 November 2023.

To help frame submissions, the Discussion Paper poses a series of questions on six key objectives.

Your response to these questions will help guide our thinking as we develop the new Strategy. Where possible, please include evidence such as relevant data, research, or references to support your views.

You can also take our survey to provide snapshot of your views on the infrastructure South Australia needs to 2045 to drive our economy and improve productivity.
