What is being decided?

The summary framework for the State Public Health Plan 2019 - 2024 has been developed and this is your opportunity to provide feedback and share your ideas about your vision for a healthier South Australian community.

How can your input influence the decision?

Your input will help shape the development of the second State Public Health Plan which will set the direction for public health and wellbeing in South Australia over the next five years. It is essential that the State Public Health Plan 2019-2024 is developed in consultation with key groups such as State Government, Local Government, non-government agencies and the community.

How will your input be used?

This is the first part of the consultation process for the development of the State Public Health Plan 2019 - 2024. Feedback from this consultation will be used to develop the full Plan. It is anticipated the full Plan will be available for feedback in August 2018.

Background

Over the past six months, consultation has occurred on the review of the inaugural State Public Health Plan (the Plan). The review provided an opportunity to reflect on achievements as well as the content and structure of the Plan. Read the summary of the review here (PDF 790KB). The feedback gathered from this process has been used to develop the summary framework for the State Public Health Plan 2019 - 2024.

The summary framework is the first step in the development of the next State Public Health Plan. It builds on the foundations of the first Plan, continuing the focus on improving the health and wellbeing for all South Australians and reducing the incidence of preventable conditions. It takes into account the public health achievements of the past four years, feedback from the review consultation process and opportunities for broader engagement and collaboration. It is based on the principles of the South Australian Public Health Act, 2011, and proposes a revitalised vision, goals, priorities, deliverable areas and target indicators.

It is by working in partnership across priority areas of work, that we will not only achieve consistency in our approach but can better gather our collective resources and effort for positive public health outcomes for all South Australians. Content under each of the priorities, including the deliverable areas, will be further expanded in the development of the full Plan. Once this has been developed, feedback will again be sought from key stakeholders and the community before the final Plan is released in November 2018.
