TAFE is great for trades. Australia needs tradesmen and tradeswomen. TAFE is the way to go.

I went to university straight after school and I did learn a lot about myself and overall enjoyed the experience of friends, clubs and extra activities, but the professional development events and the idea that a qualification was my ticket to a better life just didn't sit right with me. After finishing uni and aplying for jobs for years and constantly being rejected was my experience. I eventually got some work but none that required my qualification. Many years later I decided to go to TAFE and it was the best experience, I loved the staff, the students and what I was learning. Although it didn't have as much going on outside classes, like spaces and places for students to socialise and build networks. I see Tafe as a huge turning point in my life and I hope it remains a special institution for many others to bring fulfillment to their lives.

The lines of education between Universities and TAFE are sometimes a little blurred these days. TAFE ought to provide short courses to either upskill or provide trade skills. Government should provide a tax incentive to the industry that takes an apprentice which pays for the TAFE tuition and as a return, the graduated/now qualified trades' person would be required to work for the company for an additional 3 years otherwise the graduate would be required to pay back the whole financial cost of the TAFE course to the employer.
