Let us know what you think of our draft State Planning Policies, which for the first time set out a state-wide vision for land use in South Australia that aims to improve the liveability, sustainability and prosperity of our state.
What is being decided?
We are currently deciding how best to secure South Australia’s prosperity as a modern and progressive state.
We are doing this through 16 planning policies that address all the economic, environmental and social planning priorities for South Australia.
You can read the draft State Planning Policies or you can opt to read an overview of the draft policies in the summary paper.
A short video on the draft State Planning Policies is also available:
How can your input influence the decision?
Your input will ensure that the final State Planning Policies reflect the aspirations of everyday South Australians. Community feedback will be used to refine the draft State Planning Policies and establish the final framework for land use planning in South Australia.
How will your input be used?
A report on community feedback will be circulated to all participants in the engagement process in December 2018. The final version of the State Planning Policies will be published on the SA Planning Portal in 2019.
Closing date: Friday 21 September 2018
Background
South Australia is undergoing the biggest modernisation of its planning system in more than 20 years.
The draft State Planning Policies are a key instrument in this modernisation, the scope of which is described in the new Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.
They represent the highest level of policy in our new planning system. They outline matters of importance to the state in land use planning, development and design and provide a state-wide framework that aims to enhance our liveability, sustainability and prosperity.
Importantly, the policies consider changes to how and where South Australians live and work; current and future trends in population growth; climate change; and other social and economic drivers.
By expressing South Australia's planning interests in a single over-arching vision, the State Planning Policies will provide greater direction, clarity and efficiency in our planning system and help us develop and protect our urban, regional and rural resources.
More information can be found on the State Planning Policies page of the SA planning Portal.
