Volunteering Strategy for SA: Draft Action Plan 2025-2027

We are seeking feedback on a draft 3-year Action Plan to help us grow volunteering across South Australia.

What's being decided?

Following the release of the refreshed Volunteering Strategy for SA 2021-2027 (the State Strategy) in December 2024, the governing Steering Committee has developed a draft Action Plan to support and guide implementation of the State Strategy's priorities over the next 3 years.

We are seeking your feedback to ensure the Action Plan reflects the needs of organisations who engage volunteers, volunteer managers and volunteers themselves.

Background

In February 2023, Volunteering Australia launched the National Strategy for Volunteering 2023-2033 which provides a blueprint and strategic framework for the next ten years to achieve a better future for volunteering in Australia. In response, the governing partners of the Volunteering Strategy for SA 2021-2027 decided to update the State Strategy to align with the new national objectives and reflect the changing needs of volunteers and organisations post-pandemic. Following consultation with key stakeholders, the refreshed Volunteering Strategy for SA 2021-2027 was released in December 2024 to celebrate International Volunteers Day.

The refreshed State Strategy is governed by a new Steering Committee made up of key volunteer sector organisations and chaired by the Department of Human Services. The Steering Committee's first task was to develop a draft Action Plan to support and guide implementation of the State Strategy's priorities over the next 3 years. The actions in the draft plan are based on current work that is already underway, stakeholder suggestions received during previous consultations and the new National Action Plan.

We are seeking your feedback to ensure the Action Plan for our state reflects the diverse needs of our volunteers, the people who manage and support them, and the organisations that depend on them.
