Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park and Yorke Peninsula Parks Draft Management Plan

Consultation has concluded. Thanks for your contributions.

Have your say on how parks, including Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park, are managed on the Yorke Peninsula.

What's being decided?

The Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park and Yorke Peninsula Parks Draft Management Plan outlines objectives and strategies that set the direction for the long-term management of 12 parks across Yorke Peninsula.

The parks covered in the plan are:

  • Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park
  • Warrenben, Thidna, Carribie, Point Davenport, Leven Beach, Minlacowie, Ramsay, Bird Islands, Troubridge Island, Goose Island and Althorpe Islands conservation parks.

Your feedback on the draft plan is an important step in gaining community input into the parks’ strategic management.

All feedback received will be reviewed and considered in finalising the plan, which will be submitted to the Minister for Climate, Environment and Water for adoption.

Background

Park management plans set strategic direction and explain how parks are managed.

In 2018, the Buthera Agreement between the Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation and the State of South Australia committed to co-management of Innes National Park with Narungga people.

Subsequently, the Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park Co-management Board formed in November 2020 and the park was co-named to reflect Narungga Traditional Owners.

Through the Co-management Agreement, the Minister committed to collaborate with the board to prepare a new park management plan reflecting the new management structure and taking into account:

  • cultural, spiritual and traditional park uses
  • protection of culture and Aboriginal Heritage of the Narungga People.

While the board doesn’t have statutory responsibility for managing the conservation parks covered in the plan, it maintains a strong cultural connection.

This draft management plan was developed in partnership with the Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park Co-management Board with input from Narungga Traditional Owners, technical experts, key stakeholders and park managers involved with on-going management of these parks.

Incorporating these parks into a single plan enables actions to be applied across the landscape and supports a coordinated and consistent approach to park management across Yorke Peninsula.
