Consultation has concluded. Thanks for your contributions.

We are inviting you to share your views about key issues affecting people living with disability in South Australia.

What's being decided?

The first State Disability Inclusion Plan 2019 - 2023 (also known as Inclusive SA) is in its final year and we are developing the next State Disability Inclusion Plan (State Plan). The State Plan will build upon our commitment to disability access and inclusion to work towards creating a society for all.

To develop a plan that reflects the needs of the diverse community for which it is intended, we will draw on the expertise, experiences and advice of people with lived experience of disability.

We would like to hear from:

  • people living with disability and the disability community;
  • carers, family and friends of people with disability;
  • advocates for people with disability; and
  • those working within the disability sector.

We have developed a discussion paper which includes various ideas and questions that will help shape the State Plan.

Background

In 2018, the Disability Inclusion Act was passed in Parliament as the State Government recognised that a stronger commitment to disability access and inclusion was needed. As a result, Inclusive SA was developed. It addresses access and inclusion barriers and promotes positive action for people with disability to participate equally in South Australian society.

Inclusive SA was designed to be a living document that would:

  • remain responsive to the shifting priorities of people with disability; and
  • reflect social, political and environmental changes within South Australia.

While Inclusive SA was a positive step towards making South Australia inclusive for all, there is still more work to be done. In the development of the State Plan and as we look ahead to developing a more inclusive state, we must ask:

  • What does an inclusive and accessible South Australia look like?
  • How do we get there?
  • What is holding us back?

Get involved

Have your say by:

  • Responding to the survey.
  • Using the questions in the discussion paper as a guide, to submit written, audio, visual and video submissions to DHSDisabilityInclusion@sa.gov.au.
  • Emailing any feedback you may have to DHSDisabilityInclusion@sa.gov.au or posting it to - Department of Human Services, GPO Box 292, Adelaide SA 5001. Attn: Social Inclusion - State Disability Inclusion Plan.

If you have further queries or accessibility requirements, please email DHSDisabilityInclusion@sa.gov.au or contact us on (08) 8207 0584.

What are the next steps?

We will create a draft State Plan once the initial public consultation process is finalised. We will publish the draft State Plan for further consultation to ensure it accurately reflects the feedback provided, before delivering the new State Plan.
