What is the Hills and Fleurieu Pest Plant and Animal Strategy?
The Hills and Fleurieu Regional Pest Plant and Animal Strategy provides guidance on how to prioritise pest plant and animal management in the Hills and Fleurieu region. It is intended to provide clarity to our community and partners on our agreed approach for prioritising pest plant and animal management within our region.
Who has developed the draft strategy?
The draft strategy has been developed by Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu (Hills and Fleurieu Landscapes Board) in partnership with local councils, and other agencies responsible for land management.
Why have a strategy?
The Hills and Fleurieu Regional Pest Plant and Animal Strategy was a commitment made in the 2021-2026 Hills and Fleurieu Regional Landscape Plan 2021-2026.
It is important to have a strategy to protect agriculture, the environment and public safety from the adverse impacts of pest plants and pest animals.
What is the aim of the strategy?
The strategy aims to achieve the following outcomes:
How often will the strategy be reviewed?
The strategy will be reviewed in 2028 or as needed to respond to changing management priorities. The regional actions and lists of prioritised species in Section B may be updated more regularly to reflect changes in status.
How is the strategy structured?
The regional pest strategy is presented in two parts:
• Section A: Lays the foundational understanding and approaches to managing pests that can be applied at all scales from regional to property level.
• Second B: Presents the regional prioritisation of pest plants and animals for Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu based on the principles and management objectives.
What is the purpose of the survey?
The survey will enable us to receive feedback which will help us finalise the strategy and ensure that it is a useful tool to prioritise pest plant and animal management in the Hills and Fleurieu region.
It will take approximately 10 minutes to complete after you have read the draft strategy document.
What are the dates of the community consultation?
The community consultation will be open from 11 September until 9 October 2023. It is anticipated that the Hills and Fleurieu Regional Pest Plant and Animal Strategy endorsed by the Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board at the December board meeting.
