FAQs
What is the ‘Koala State’ number plates initiative?
In July 2023, the state government introduced new ‘Koala State’ number plates as part of its commitment to the wildlife rescue and rehabilitation sector. $50 from each Koala Plate sale goes toward a fund to support the sector.
Plates cost $151 for an existing vehicle registration, with $50 going towards the fund.
How can I purchase a ‘Koala State’ number plate?
Number plates can be purchased through the EzyPlates website: https://ezyplates.sa.gov.au/koala-plates/
How much money has been raised for the fund?
As of 17 December 2023, Koala Plate sales have raised $77,450 to distribute through the grants program.
Why has DEW chosen to distribute the funds via a grants program?
The Department for Environment and Water (DEW) is distributing the funds through a grants program to ensure accountability and flexibility.
DEW is keen to develop the grants program in consultation with the rescue and rehabilitation sector so that it best meets the sector’s needs and priorities.
What is the aim of the grants program?
The grants program aims to support the wildlife rescue and rehabilitation sector and improve animal welfare outcomes for sick, injured and orphaned animals.
How will my feedback on the grants program inform the process?
This consultation aims to understand how the sector would like to see the funds distributed and how a grants program should be structured.
The responses will help identify what items or activities will be covered by the grants process, who will be eligible to apply and any other criteria the sector may feel important to include. All responses and comments will be considered as part of the process.
Who has been invited to provide feedback on the grants program?
DEW has invited all permitted individuals and organisations to participate in this consultation and provide feedback. If you believe that a relevant individual or organisation has not been invited to participate, please let us know by emailing DEWFaunaPermitsUnit@sa.gov.au.
